The First Step If you have chosen to participate in a research study, the next step is to apply for the study online or contact us directly. We will determine if you are a good candidate for the study or if there are other studies you may be interested in. You will then be asked to come in for a screening visit at one of our locations. Know Yourself By choosing to participate in a clinical trial, you are taking a more active role in your health. First, you want to be familiar with your own medical information. Your doctor may have already determined that you are a good candidate for the study. In this case, we will still conduct a detailed interview with you about your medical history. Our doctors want to get to know you so that we can give you the most out of the study. Your First Visit At your first visit, our research staff will go over the research study in detail and make sure you understand all the pros and cons of your participation. As part of the information, you will receive a Patient Consent Form. This detailed form covers everything you will need to know about the study including: - Risks and Benefits - Time commitment - Medication information - Explanation of clinical visit procedures - Compensation for time and travel. - Alternative therapies for your illness. If you chose to participate in the study, read and sign the consent form. We will give you a copy of the consent to have for your records. You can chose not to participate in a study (by not signing) or withdraw your consent at anytime. The informed Consent Form is there only to prove to Sponsors that you understand everything about the study & chose to participate. If you chose to drop out of the study (withdraw consent) there will be no fees and you will be paid for all visits completed during the study. Each study is different, and the procedures of your first visit will be explained in detail in your consent form. Once you have signed the consent, the research coordinator will guide you through your screening visit. Know the Study As a volunteer in clinical research, you will learn information that is not yet available to most doctors, including your regular doctor. Become very familiar with the information in the consent form and stay in good contact with the research coordinator & study doctors. As new discoveries are made, you will be given information regarding the study drug you are taking, make sure to read it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or report anything unusual, your opinion is important for our understanding of how the medication works. During the Study Be sure that you have the time to complete all the visit on schedule. Weekend visits can be scheduled to avoid missing work. During this part of the study, you will be taking the study medication and it is important that you follow directions and stay in close contact with the research coordinator. It is important that you do not make any changes in your medication regiment during this time without consulting the study doctor. The specific procedures done during your visits, compensation, and time required will be explained in the consent. If at any time you feel that you no longer want to continue the study, you are free to stop. If you chose to stop taking study medication, contact the research staff to schedule your end visit. You will be compensated for all visit completed even if you chose to drop out before completing the study. When the Study Ends If you remained in the study for its duration, you will be instructed when to stop taking your study medication and a final visit with the study doctor will be scheduled. The doctor will evaluate your health and make his final recommendations to you. You will receive compensation for all visits completed along with your final medical test results.
